Migraine
There is HOPE
YOUR MIGRAINE PAINS CAN BE CURED
Migraines are severe headaches that can cause throbbing, pulsing sensations, and significant pain. During these headaches, one will normally experience extreme sensitivity to light and sound. They can be genetic, or a result of neck/spine injury.
Migraines affect children, adolescents, and adults, and are also mostly untreated or undiagnosed. There are 4 stages to a migraine: prodrome, aura, attack, and postdrome; however, not everyone goes through all 4 stages.
Prodrome
One or two days before the onset of the migraine, one may notice subtle changes that indicate a migraine is coming – neck stiffness and mood changes are common.
Aura
Sometimes an aura will occur before or during a migraine. They are symptoms of the nervous system. Common auras can be visual phenomena or loss, or numbness in a limb or part of the body.
Attack
An attack can last from 4-72 hours if untreated. During this attack, one will normally experience severe throbbing or pulsing pain on one or both sides of the head. Sensitivity to light, touch, or sound is also common.
Postdrome
After the attack, it is common to feel drained for 24-48 hours. During this time some have difficulty concentrating or remembering information, while some report euphoric or depressed moods.
Some migraines can result from comorbidities, usually cervical facet radiculopathy. The trigeminal nerve, which stems from the cervical dorsal roots and innervates the face and pia mater, is compressed by cervical spine injury or anatomical issues and causes significant pain and migraines. Other causes include neurotransmitter imbalances or specific triggers such as sleep changes or stress.
Migraines can be dangerous because the overuse of medicines to remedy them can lead to more headaches. This is especially common when you combine aspirin, acetaminophen, and caffeine.
